9/18/03: The Mets announced their Sterling Award winners, emblematic of the team MVP for each of their six minor league affiliates. Third baseman Rodney Nye won at Binghamton after hitting .312 with 10 homers and 70 RBIs. He was voted by his teammates as the club's MVP and was named in a Baseball America poll as the best defensive third baseman in the Eastern League.

The West Division won 2-1 over the East Division at GMC Stadium on a pair of home runs by River City's Michael Conner. Conner won the All-Star game MVP Award. Earlier in the game he had an RBI double and then scored.

Pellow, who singled in a run in the eighth to begin a four-run rally and cut the Iowa lead to 6-3, followed a single by SS Clint Barnes and a walk to 3B Garrett Atkins with a two-out drive off of RHP Justin Kaye to give Colorado Springs its first lead. Pellow, who has four home runs in his last eight games, is now batting .400-3-7 vs. the Cubs. The 29-year-old, who has gone deep at least 20 times in each of his last five seasons, is batting .367 (11-30) in the month of July to raise his season average 12 points.

Erickson, who finished 5-for-6 with four doubles and three runs scored, tied the game at 13-13 on a double with two outs in the ninth and scored when C Brandon Marsters dropped a third strike on SS Kevin Hooper and committed a throwing error. Erickson also capped a seven-run fifth inning with a run-scoring double. SS Derek Wathan went 4-for-5 with three triples and three RBIs for the victors. OF Mike Ryan hit a pair of home runs with three RBIs for the Trappers. Ryan, a fifth-round pick in 1996, had a breakout season, finishing first in the league in extra-base hits with 73, tying for second with 31 home runs and ranking fourth in RBIs with 101. In the ninth, the 28-year-old connected on his 27th longball of the season. Pellow, who last knocked home seven runs in a game back in 1999, has averaged 27 homers and 82 RBIs over his last five seasons without being promoted to the major leagues. Since July 25, four separate players have collected seven RBIs against the Sky Sox.

6/29/02: Alan Mahaffey pitched his first complete game shut out of 2002 to tie teammate Brad Cornett for the Atlantic League-lead in victories (9). The left-hander was outstanding in scattering three hits while striking out five Bears as the Bridgeport Bluefish (33-21) defeated the Newark Bears, 6-0.

6/28/02: Michael Conner was signed by the Lincoln Saltdogs of the Northern League.

6/28/02: Charlie Isaacson earned his first professional win by pitching six shutout innings in Staten Island's 4-0 win over Tri-City. He gave up two hits, walked one, and struck out seven batters.

6/27/02: The Cleveland Indians sent Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew to the Montreal Expos for Lee Stevens and three minor league prospects -- shortstop Brandon Phillips, pitcher Cliff Lee and outfielder Grady Sizemore. Cliff was assigned to the Akron Aeros, Cleveland's AA team.

6/18/02: Harrisburg (Eastern) LHP Cliff Lee struck out 10 batters to help the Senators edge Erie, 3-2. Lee yielded a run, three hits and a walk over seven innings in the win, improving to 7-2 with a 2.87 ERA, fourth-best in the league. The 23-year-old struck out four of the first five batters he faced, retired 15 of the first 17 over five hitless frames and fanned a pair in both the fifth and seventh innings for a league-leading 98 K's in 81 2/3 innings.

6/14/02: Omaha (PCL) 3B Kit Pellow belted two home runs and collected six RBIs to lead the Royals to a 14-6 victory at Tacoma. Pellow drilled a two-run shot in the third inning and launched a grand slam to highlight a nine-run fourth. The 28-year-old is hitting .266 with 54 hits, 12 doubles and 31 RBIs through 55 games of his fifth season with Omaha.

5/22/02: Kit Pellow became Omaha's all-time leader in home runs, after hitting his 81st long ball for the club Wednesday night at Cashman Field in Las Vegas. Pellow had hit only one home run in his first 114 at bats this season when he came to the plate with one out in the 8th inning and the Royals trailing the 51s 4-3. Pellow belted a 1-1 pitch from lefty Shane Nance over the left field wall, putting Omaha in front 6-4. The Royals scored twice more in the same frame to win 8-4. The home run was Pellow's first since a May 1st game at AutoZone Park in Memphis, when he pulled into a tie atop the club's career home run chart with Joe Vitiello.

5/21/02: Harrisburg (EAST) LHP Cliff Lee struck out 12 batters over six innings in the Senators' 7-1 loss to Trenton. The 23-year-old retired the first nine batters, including seven by strikeout, before yielding a hit leading off the fourth inning. He then set down seven of the next eight before allowing a two-out, RBI single to SS Freddy Sanchez in the sixth. A fourth-round selection of the Expos in the 2000 draft, Lee allowed two runs, four hits and issued a walk in the loss, falling to 4-1 with a 2.66 ERA in nine starts. The Arkansas native fanned two batters in the first, second and fifth frames and struck out the side in order in the third to become the league-leader in strikeouts with 60 over 50 2/3 innings.

5/21/02: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (INT) RHP Robert Person made his first rehab start in the Red Barons' 6-1 loss at Durham. The 33-year-old, who is rehabbing a strained elbow, gave up two runs and three hits with three strikeouts and a walk over 3 1/3 innings to suffer the loss. The veteran righthander retired eight of the first 10 batters he faced over three scoreless innings before yielding back-to-back solo shots to open the fourth.

4/19/02: Wichita (Texas) OF Alexis Gomez went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and three RBIs in the Wranglers' 9-8 victory at Shreveport. Gomez drew a walk in his first plate appearance and doubled with one out in the second. The 21-year-old lined an RBI double in the third and crushed a three-run blast in the sixth before singling in the eighth. Gomez is now batting .429 with 10 RBIs, 10 runs scored, eight stolen bases. He has fanned only six times in first 56 at-bats. 2B Joe Jester belted a pair of solo shots for the Swamp Dragons in the third and eighth innings.

4/18/02: David Walling made another encouraging start for Triple-A Columbus last night, going 7 1/3 innings with seven hits, two runs (one earned), no walks and three strikeouts. He suffered his second loss without a victory, but lowered his ERA to 1.69. After missing most of last season with Double-A Norwich due to a mental block that prompted him to continually throw to first base instead of home plate, the Yankees 1999 first-rounder hasn't issued a walk in his first 21 innings this season. He has 14 strikeouts and has given up 18 hits.
