From BA: Tyler Henson is one of the most athletic shortstops in the Midwest, which could get him drafted between the sixth and 10th rounds despite questions about his bat. His speed and arm strength are plus tools, and he has good actions at shortstop. He also offers pop, though scouts worry about his approach at the plate. Though he committed to Arkansas, he's expected to sign if he goes in the first 10 rounds. If not, he could attend Connors Stats as a draft-and-follow. The Royals have scouted Henson more heavily than any other club.

Drafted by Baltimore in the 5th round (#145 overall) of the MLB Amateur draft. Signed.

Named the #6 prospect in the Texas Collegiate League by BaseballAmerica: Jess Todd's teammate at Navarro JC, Nutt will also make the jump to Arkansas in the spring. Labeled by some as the best hitter in the league, Nutt's flat bat drew rave reviews from coaches around the league. Armed with a sound approach that makes him difficult to strike out, Nutt has the ability to make consistent, hard contact to all fields, with power. Behind the plate is a different story, as few believe Nutt will survive much longer as a catcher. While he offers the arm for the position, Nutt has footwork described as "irreparable," leading to a likely future move to first base. Coaches do believe the slugger will hit enough for the position move.

Chose Arkansas over Nebraska, Arizona State, Minnesota and others.

Ranked #172 on BaseballAmerica's Top 200 Draft Prospects on May 25, 2006. Named the #1 best prospect in the state of Wisconsin by Baseball America on June 2.

BA Scouting Report: Wisconsin has more high school depth than usual this year, and much of it is ticketed for the University of Arkansas. The prize of the crop is Seidel, who along with Oak Creek lefthander Tony Butler and Fond du Lac catcher Chad Pierce has committed to the Razorbacks. Seidel is the most projectable pitcher in the upper Midwest, an athletic 6-foot-6, 185-pounder whose arm works so easily. His fastball presently ranges from 85-90 mph, but as he fills out his velocity could zoom up to the mid-90s. His curveball should become at least an average pitch, and he already has shown some mastery of a changeup. He's also a football quarterback and a basketball forward for Central High, and scouts' main concern is that he doesn't dominate as much as he should against inferior competition in any of his three sports. Though he has a good chance to be a higher draft pick three years from now, Seidel is believed to be signable at least through the first five rounds.

5-0, 1.09 ERA, 5 games, 32 innings, 20 hits, 7 walks and 39 strikeouts as of 5/25. 7 ip, 1 ER, 3 hits, 1 walk and 9 strikeouts in picking up the win on 5/27. Was also 2-3 with a homerun. Threw a one-hitter and had 13 strikeouts on 6/2. Went 8-2 with a 0.99 ERA and 99 strikeouts.

Drafted by Milwaukee in the 16th round (#482 overall) of the MLB Amateur draft. Signed on August 12.

Juco Honorable Mention All-American.

Played for the Coppell Copperheads of the Texas Collegiate League during the summer of 2006. Named to the midseason All-Star team (Tris Speaker team). Broke the league's season strikeout record. He had 85 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched during '06 to top the TCL mark of 72 by Coppell's Drew Johnson (Texas) in 2004.

Named the #5 prospect in the Texas Collegiate League by BaseballAmerica: After two successful years in junior college, Todd will make the jump to Division I ball in the spring with Arkansas after spending his first two seasons at Navarro (Texas) JC. Todd led the TCL in strikeouts with 85 in 61 innings, relying primarily on his hard, mid-80s slider that tops out at 87 mph as his strikeout pitch. The slider has a tendency to go flat at top velocity, but when Todd gets proper depth, coaches call the pitch unhittable. His fastball also has made strides, as he now works in the low 90s, touching 93 at times. The righthander has made strides with a changeup, but the pitch lags behind his two plus offerings. Reported to have spurned the Tigers' $150,000 bonus offer as a free agent this summer, Todd should compete with Alaska League prospect Duke Welker for the No. 3 spot in a loaded Arkansas weekend rotation behind Nick Schmidt and Shaun Siebert.

Signed with Arkansas in August of 2006 instead of going to Texas.

Will be a junior.

Named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State baseball Large West team as a pitcher.

Ranked #196 on BaseballAmerica's Top 200 Draft Prospects on May 25, 2006.

BA Scouting Report: Weeden's brother Brandon was the Yankees' top pick (second round) in the 2002 draft and was part of the Kevin Brown trade with the Dodgers. Though Ty can throw 90-92 mph off the mound, he won't follow in his brother's footsteps as a pitcher. Scouts still talk about the batting-practice show he put on at the Area Code Games last summer, displaying tremendous power to all fields. If scouts believed he could play catcher, he'd go in the first two rounds. But they're skeptical because he doesn't have the agility or receiving skills to match his arm strength. He's probably destined for first base, where much more offense is required, because he may lack the athleticism to handle an outfield corner. Nevertheless, his righthanded power is a valuable commodity, and he'll be a decent draft pick if he's considered signable away from Arkansas.

Named the #2 best prospect in the state of Oklahoma by Baseball America on May 31.

Named the 2006 All-Edmond Player of the Year on June 3.

Drafted by Boston in the 16th round (#493 overall) of the MLB Amateur draft. Signed on August 9 ($420,000).

Throws an 88-92 mph sinker along with an effective curveball and a changeup.

Played for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the Alaska Summer League in 2006.

Named the #2 prospect in the Alaska League by BaseballAmerica: A native of Washington state who was drafted in 2004, Welker is transferring to Arkansas from Seminole State (Okla.) JC and figures to compete in a strong staff (Nick Schmidt, Shaun Seibert among others) for innings. He finished fourth in the league in ERA (1.46) and has more upside than most other league pitchers, thanks to his athletic ability, loose arm and pitcher's frame. At 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, he moves well and is coordinated, though he tends to lose his arm slot and battle his control at times. Welker's raw stuff is solid, with a fastball sitting in the upper 80s, touching 91-92. His breaking ball and changeup were consistently fringe-average.

Named to the class AAAAA All-State baseball team in 2005.

#98 on BaseballAmerica's Top 200 Draft Prospects list.

Ranked the best draft eligible player in Arkansas by BaseballAmerica. Their Scouting Report: Wood is a long-term project, albeit an intriguing one because there aren't many lefthanders who can reach 95 mph. His fastball sat at 88-91 mph for much of the spring, but he started making more frequent forays into the mid-90s as the draft drew closer. Wood isn't tall, but he generates his velocity with a quick arm and athleticism. Scouts aren't crazy about his delivery, as he throws with a lot of effort and with some recoil. Wood hasn't shown much aptitude for spinning a breaking ball, and his curveball ranges from below-average to decent. For the most part, he just rears back and blows fastballs by inferior competition, so he'll have to make adjustments at the next level. Wood is considered a tough but not impossible sign. If teams decide he can't be steered away from Arkansas, the state may not have a player drafted in the first 10 rounds.

Drafted in the second round (60th overall) by the Cincinnati Reds on June 7 and signed. Won't be a Hog!

Named the Arkansas Democrat Gazette All-Arkansas Co-Player of the Year for 2005.
