Has a chance to be a very high level hitting prospect. Showed good strength in his swing and flashed good bat speed, squaring up several balls very hard. Made a lot of good contact at the plate and has some present power, projects for more. May have as much upside on the mound, good quick compact arm action. Secondary stuff has potential, has a ton of projection on the mound and how quickly he develops there will determine whether his future lies as a pitcher or a position player. Showed soft hands and good defensive skills at 1B. Very interesting prospect to follow.

First Team 4A All-State in '13. Iowa Pitcher of the Year.

Attended the 2013 Perfect Game National Showcase. {Rated a 10}

PG REPORT: XL frame, strong physical build. Pitches from a high three quarters arm slot with good present arm strength. Has shown significant development over the past year and has moved himself into the upper tiers of 2014 high school prospects. Fastball velocity and command have each taken a step forward but changeup is McKinney's most positive step forward. Flashed well above average present ability with the changeup, deceptive arm speed and good movement, threw it for strikes. Good spin on curveball and solid bite, still refining but showed legitimate plus potential. Also showed good raw power with the bat. Very good student.

Selected to play for the White Sox in the 2013 Area Code Games.

Played in the Perfect Game All-American Classic at San Diego's Petco Park on August 11, 2013.

Attended the 2014 Perfect Game Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase. {Rated a 10}

PG REPORT: Extra large athletic frame with long limbs and plus present strength. Did not pitch this event, just starting his spring throwing program, Perfect Game All-American and USA National 18U Team pitcher. Right handed hitter, straight stance with good balance, sound fundamental swing, long levers mean big leverage at contact, very good present bat speed, ball explodes off the barrel when squared, gets lots of power from his hips and core, looked very good hitting and will be a two-way impact player with his hitting tools if he were to go to college. Named to the Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase Top Prospect Team.

Named the MaxPreps 2014 Preseason Mr. Baseball in Iowa.

Attended the 2014 Perfect Game Spring Top Prospect Showcase. {Rated a 10}

PG REPORT: Big strong athletic build, prototypical power pitchers look. Easy delivery with good hip and lower half turn, small pause at the top, stays closed well, 3/4's arm slot with a loose, fast arm coming through. Fastball sat 90-92 mph, has been topping out at 93-94 regularly in the Spring League, occasional arm side running action. Showed his plus change up and has lots of confidence in it, big run and sink with ideal arm speed. Mid-70's curveball used as his third pitch, sweeping shape with occasional depth. Around the zone with all his pitches. Good student.

Attended the 2014 Perfect Game National Pre-Draft Showcase. {Rated a 10}

PG REPORT: Plus athletic build, has physical maturity in body. Low hand set to start, back and hip turn at balance. Throws a bit across body with best fastballs low and to glove side. Has high 3/4 release point with good extension out front. Change up is plus pitch and possibly the best change up in the high school ranks. Change has big fade shape. Gets a lot of outs off change up. Curveball is developing and uses early to get a head in counts. Very quick workman like 3 innings using 38 pitches and pounded strike zone with all three pitches. Named to Top Prospect List. Outstanding Student.

Named the 2014 Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year in Iowa.

PG REPORT: Strong athletic build, fairly mature physically. Quick and compact defensive actions, very aggressive blocker with good technique, works very hard behind the plate, good arm strength with a quick release, has leadership qualities at a leadership position. Right handed hitter, bent knee stance, high hand start, gets to his front side well and uses his strength, swings hard and will have power at the next level. Attended the 2013 Perfect Game Jr National Showcase. {Rated a 9}

PG REPORT: Very young slender build, minimal present strength but lots of room to fill out. Long 3/4's to high 3/4's arm action, quick arm coming through, stays balanced well and repeats his mechanics on all pitches. Mid 80's fastball, topped out at 87 mph, plenty more velocity in there with additional strength, mostly straight at present. Curveball shows hard spin with a sharp late bite at times, good depth. Tends to drop release point on slider, slider actions as much as a change up at present. Strike thrower who has an idea how to pitch. Good student.

2013: Threw 0.2 innings due to arm problems.

Played for the Arkansas EXPRESS and Evoshield Canes (PG WWBA 16U National Champions) in the summer of '13.

Transferred from Bryant, AR after the 2012-13 school year.

Simple polished swing approach, limited but well timed shift into contact, quick hands with a good path to the ball, has deceptive pull power for his size, squares the ball up. 7.18 runner, quick hands and release in the infield, shows body control, soft hands, second base tools and actions. Also pitched, polished easy delivery, lots of sink on an 80 mph fastball, big breaking curveball, threw strikes and had a quick inning. Very polished young player with high level of skills. PG REPORT: Slender young athletic build, plenty of room to get stronger. Athletic and efficient delivery, short arm circle, 3/4's arm slot, gets on top of the ball well at release with good extension out front and throws with angle, repeats mechanics well. Fast arm, fastball topped at 86 mph, mostly straight with 4-seam look to it. Two quality off speed pitches in his curveball and split/change. Curveball lacks power but has hard and tight rotation in the mid-60's with big downer 12/6 break. Change has nice arm speed with late diving and sinking action at the plate. Throws strikes with all three pitches and has an idea how to pitch. Fields his position well and competes. Polished pitcher who should continue to improve with additional strength. Starts with a wide square stance at the plate with a line drive swing plane and an aggressive approach. PG REPORT: Strong athletic build. Slow paced simple turn and throw delivery, deep arm action with some wrap in back, arm is loose and fast coming through, high 3/4's arm slot. Steady 88-89 mph fastball, good downhill angle but mostly straight, commands fastball well and maintains velocity from the stretch, velocity comes pretty easily. Wrap in back affects slider consistency and quality, wraps slider and tips to hitter in back, short flat break on slider. Tended to slow body and arm on his change up. Projects to be a low 90's fastball pitcher but needs improvement on his off speed pitches at present. Right handed hitter, spread stance with a large leg kick load, strong swing with some bat speed, swings hard and looks to drive the ball, busy approach but has hitting tools to develop, squared up the ball well and showed power. PG REPORT: Strong compact athletic build. Put on an absurd defensive performance, exceptional throwing arm with stunning carry and accuracy, threw out several runners in games after putting on a show during drills, game impacting defensive showing, is fast and mobile enough to play centerfield. Left handed hitter, spread open stance with a big wrap to start his swing, very good raw bat speed with good extension through contact, saw the ball very well in games and made consistent hard contact. Also pitched an inning, fastball topped out at 87 mph from a slow paced leg raise delivery, tends to slow everything on a soft curveball. High IQ player who performs and is fun to watch play.
