I am the Granddaughter of Dave Hanner, the oldest of all Grandchildren. I have grown up in a football family and have so much love and respect for the game! I would love any information and stories anyone could share with me. If I could go back in time for one day it would be to see him play!

In the late 1950s, my family lived on the first floor of a house on Maple Street in Green Bay, and one season Dave Hanner and his family rented the upper unit. I remember Dave and my father sitting out on the front porch while my siblings played with the Hanner kids.
I seem to recall being fascinated watching Dave roll his own cigarettes.

I remember watching Hawg play the day after he had his appendix removed. He was amazing that day and played the entire game. That's my fondest memory of Dave "Hawg" Hanner.

My father, Pete Tinsley played for the Green Bay Packers in 1938-45. Dad and Dave Hanner became very good fishing buddies when Dave and Jane bought their summer home on Keyes Lake in Florence, WI. There are endless stories that I could tell about the two of them fishing and exchanging insights about the world. My father and mother always regarded Dave and Jane as dear friends and my husband, son, daughter and I feel the same. They are good folks!!! My son, Alan Christian teaches at Arkansas State and is always proud to tell people that he gave Dave's daughter Holly a very rough summer when she was our live-in babysitter for one summer when he was going into 8th grade.

When I was a little girl Mr Hanner sometimes measured cotton with my dad, Walter Schaller, in the fields of Crittenden County, Arkansas. He visited our house a few times and brought his family. I remember him letting my little brother play with one of his football rings. I thought it was the largest and prettiest ring I had ever seen. I always followed the Packers because of him.

Jessica,

Your grandpa and my Dad (Dick Corrick) were very good friends while they worked together for the Packers. I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with your grandpa at summer training camps with the Packers. He was a great man, surprisingly caring and gentle for such a big guy. One year at a rookie talent show during camp I got to play your Grandpa as a child in a skit put on by the players. My one line was to spit fake tobacco juice and say "Okie Doke". Well I was sooo nervous from having stolen his favorite pair of wingtip shoes from his locker to wear at the show that I spit Snickers all down the front of me. Your Granpa could wear wingtips and white tube socks like no one else. I am so sorry for your loss.

I sat down at my computer today to look up some quotes of my Pappaw and this site popped up. I can not even begin to tell you how wonderful these stories were to hear! I miss my pappaw so very much and you brought him right back to life with your words. And Pat, I remember Mr. Tinsley so very fondly! Your father was such a wonderful man. He was a great fisherman and a dear friend to Mammaw and Pappaw!! Everytime I am at the cabin such great flashbacks of them come to me! Thank you and I do so hope to hear more!

My father was a good friend of Dave's. He told my father that Vince Lombardi gave him the responsibility to clog up the middle. He was not to pursue the quarterback or leave the center area. He was to be watchful of draw plays, etc. He did his job in a supurb manner although that responsibility didn't get him headlines, etc.

Jessica,

My name is Art Stewart. I was born in 1944 on Typler Farm in Parkin, Ark. My father, C. F. Stewart was the general manager for Mr. Typler who lived in Chicago. Your Great Grandfather and your Grandfather (Dave Hanner) lived on that farm. Your Great Grandfather worked for my dad and
my dad had things to do with Dave getting his scholarship to Hog U. I remember once when I was in the first grade, Dave was home on a visit. I saw him and he picked me up and carried me all over Parkin on his shoulders. I remember feeling so important because people came from everywhere to greet him and shake his hand. Everyone for miles around was so proud of our very own "Hawg" Hanner.

Respectfully, I am

Art Stewart
