Important Notes: Taken by the San Diego Padres as the sixth overall pick in the 1981 draft...named Player of the Year in his minor leagues in both 1982 and 1983...suffered a broken hand in game 4 of the NLCS in 1984 and took most of 1985 to recover...traded from San Diego to New York with P Gene Walker for 3B Kevin Mitchell, OF Shawn Abner, OF Stanley Jefferson, P Kevin Armstrong and P Kevin Brown on December 11, 1986...finished third in the voting for the NL MVP in 1988...hit for the cycle on August 1, 1989 (4-5, 4 runs, 6 RBI) against St. Louis, the fifth cycle in the history of the New York Mets...Story: In 1990, During a game between New York and Montreal, CBS broadcaster Jack Buck jokingly offered a thousand dollars to any camera person who could catch Mets outfielder Kevin McReynolds smiling; Deena Sheldon did, and Buck wrote her the check on the air.

Important Stats: Career high 29 homeruns in 1987...career high 99 RBI in 1988...career high 21 stolen bases in 1988 without being caught, a major league record...career .987 fielding percentage.

Arkansas Notes: Lettered in 1979, '80, & '81...a member of the NCAA College World Series All-Tournament team in 1979...won the Bill Dickey award in 1980...named the National Baseball Congress World Series MVP while playing for the Fairbanks (AK) Goldpanners during the summer of 1980...All-American in 1980 & '81...elected to the U of A Letterman's Association Hall of Honor in 1989...was on the 2007 National College Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.

McReynolds was a great defensive outfielder, but not flashy. He played all three outfield positions as well as anyone in the league, and made it look easy. This proves Gold Glove voting is just a popularity contest.
