I was a student at Ramay Jr. High in Fayetteville Arkansas in 1978. It was the usual course of action to get a student teacher from the university each year. In 1978 I walked into my gym class to find that Sidney Moncrief was going to be our student teacher from the University!! From day one I was totally enthralled. He even played us kids games of horse. We were absolutely mesmerized. He was already known as "Super Sid" and we couldn't believe he was teaching us.
Well to make a short story long...hehehe....one of my friends even wrote a song about him. I still remember the words:

He came from Little Rock Arkansas,
Stood about 6 feet 4 inches tall,
A heck of a player, but that's not all,
Folks said he was born with a basketball.

Now basketball turned upside down,
when Sidney Moncrief came to town,
They filled Barnhill Field to capacity,
to watch the young mans wizardry.

chorus:
Texas has its Krevaks,
ISU the bird,
but down in the state of Arkansas,
Moncrief is the word,
Duke has its Gemenski,
ISU the bird,
but down in the state of Arkansas,
Moncrief is the word

Now down the court with blazing speed,
and taking passes off of US Reed,
and up in the air with a double pump,
the Sid developed his patented dunk.

So they played the Longhorns to win it all,
those gutsy kids from Arkansas,
and when they left that Houston town,
they took the Southwest Conference Crown.

chorus

And on to the NCAA,
with the Razorbacks to play,
and as they'd done in the games before,
they started Mr. 6 foot 4.

And in the game with ISU,
Arkansas red was turned to blue,
but if you felt the way I did,
you poured your heart out to all those kids,
and Super Sid.

Now Super Sid has come and gone,
but still his memory lingers on,
and if you feel the way I do,
we're all gonna miss number 32.

chorus

I remember as a kid listening to the bucks games for sir Sid was my favorite player. I remember one game there was like 4 seconds left against the lakers in L.A. and the ball was inbounded to Sid he drove right down the middle and dunked it over Kareem with no time left. He was the heart, soul & inspiration of those bucks teams. If we didn't have Sid we wouldn't have won an average of 54 games a season and no central division championships would of been ours so I would just like to thank Sid. I am 33 now and watched the bucks decline in every way. Hoping year by year they would of drafted another like Sid but let's face it that's impossible when your one of a kind. Thank-you Sid for all the memories.
