Coaching Jobs: Oklahoma Sooners (1973-88), Dallas Cowboys (1994-97)

Important Notes: Won 4 National Championships (8 If you include the Helms and/or Dunkel awards of 1973, 1978, 1980, and 1986)...the first was while he was an assistant at Arkansas in 1964, the other 3 were won while he was head coach at the University of Oklahoma (1974-75, 1985)... won 12 Big-8 Conference championships, and eight of 13 bowl appearances at OU...the only coach in the history of the NCAA to win a National Championship and have players win the Heisman, Outland, Lombardi, Butkus, and Thorpe awards...only the second coach to ever win a National Championship and a Super Bowl...became offensive line coach for the Sooners after the 1965 season...named offensive coordinator for the Sooners in 1967...on January 29, 1973, Barry Switzer became the 17th head coach for the Oklahoma Sooners...resigned as the Oklahoma Sooners head coach on June 19, 1989...came out of retirement in 1994 to take over the Cowboys....won Super Bowl XXX in 1996...inducted into the college football Hall of Fame in 2001.

Records: 157-29-4 (0.837) at Oklahoma...40-24 (0.625) in the regular season at Dallas, 5-2 (0.714) in the playoffs.

Arkansas Notes: Attended the University of Arkansas from 1955 through 1959 (He was red-shirted the 1955 season)...was tri-captain of the 1959 team...the 1959 team was Tri-Champions of the Southwest conference....was a player assistant in 1960...became an assistant coach in 1961....was inducted into the University of Arkansas Letterman's Association Hall of Honor in 1996.

I played for Barry Switzer from 1985-1988. And simply put he is in my opinion a better human being than he was a coach, and we all know what he did as a coach.
