·11/18/01: LHP Craig Frydendall signed with the Hogs during his official visit.
·11/15/01: LHP Jay Sawatski (6-2, 190) currently of Westark and formerly of Pulaski Academy High School, orally committed to the Hogs. He will officially sign on Monday (11/19).
·11/14/01: The NCAA's early signing period begins. Six players signed letters of intent to play for the Hogs. They are: John Findley, Robby Daniel, Chris Krawczyk, Chris Taylor, Cody Montgomery, and Tory Davis. RHP Josh Wahpepah (6-4, 180) of Dale (Ok.) High School also signed.
·11/12/01: RHP Robby Daniel of Poyen High School orally committed to the Hogs after his official visit this past weekend. Daniel was 7-3 with a 0.89 ERA as a junior. His fastball has been clocked at 88 mph.
·11/11/01: Two more recruits are scheduled to visit Fayetteville next weekend. They are LHP Craig Frydendall (6-4, 200) of Cowley County (Kn.) Community College and OF Chase Kliment (6-1.5, 185) of Cherry Creek (Co.) High School.
·11/9/01: The Hogs will host three recruits this weekend. RHP Robby Daniel (6-4, 180) of Poyen, AR will visit. He was 7-3 with an 0.83 ERA as a junior. Yuba (Ca.) College SS Josh Mayo and Vaccaville (Ca.) High LHP/OF Jordan Brown will visit.
·11/1/01: The 2002 Razorback Baseball schedule has been released.
·10/31/01: Yuba (Ca.) College outfielder Tory Davis has committed to the Hogs. The 6-1, 215 pound Davis hit .420 with 9 home runs and 65 RBI as a freshman. Current Hog Josh Glynn attended Yuba last season.
·10/30/01: The Hogs received a commitment from RHP Chris Krawczyk from Kansas City (Mo.) Truman High School. The 6-1, 190 pounder was 8-5 with a 2.86 ERA and 77 strikeouts last season. This past summer he was 7-2 with a 2.18 ERA and 41 strikeouts in American Legion ball.
·10/26/01: Four recruits will be visiting campus this weekend: Chris Taylor, RHP Jay Sawatski from Westark, RHP Brandon McCarthy (6-4, 200) from Lamar (CO.) Community College, and 2B/OF Brent Walker (5-9, 160) from Mission College (CA.) Prep.
·10/25/01: SS Cody Montgomery (6-3, 185), from Boulder (CO.) Fairview, has orally committed to the Hogs. He chose Arkansas over Baylor and Nebraska. In his junior year Cody hit .545.
·10/18/01: The Red-White game was held at George Cole Field. Gary Hogan and Scott Roehl were the starting pitchers. The Hog Dogs beat the Byrds Bombers 13-2. Nick Pitts had four hits while Cody Clark and Micheal Conner each had two. Conner had a two-run home run.
·10/17/01: The Bombers beat the Hog Dogs 5-4.
·10/16/01: The Hog Dogs won to take a 3-0 series lead.
·10/15/01: The Hog Dogs won 7-6 to go up two games to none.
·10/13/01: The Hog Dogs beat the Byrds Bombers 7-4 in the first game of the Fall World Series.
·10/11/01: Nettleton High right-hander John Findley has committed to Arkansas. The 6-3, 170 pound pitcher chose Arkansas over Arkansas State and Memphis.
·10/2/01: The first game of the Fall World Series is scheduled for Saturday, October 13 at 11 a.m.
·9/28/01: Collegiate Baseball magazine ranked Arkansas' recruiting class as the 22nd in the nation. LSU's was 2nd in the nation, their were six other SEC teams in the top 25.
·9/11/01: Four recruits will be in Fayetteville this weekend. They are: Chris Taylor of Webb City Mo., SS Cody Montgomery (6-3, 185) from Lafayette High in Colorado, first baseman Corey Schaeffer (6-3, 211) of Choctaw Oklahoma, and OF Tory Davis (6-1, 215) of Yuba College in California.
·9/4/01: Three recruits are expected in Fayetteville this week to attend the Tennessee football game. Nettleton High RHP John Findley (6-3, 170), Little Rock Central catcher/pitcher Josh Sullivan (6-3, 190), and Whittier (Ca.) St. Paul High RHP Rudy Quinonez (6-2, 190) will be here. Sullivan, who would like to play football and baseball in college, hit .495 with seven homeruns last year. Findley combined for a 22-1 record in high school and legion ball with an ERA below 1.00 this past year. Quinonez attends the same high school that Tim Montez graduated from and had a 6-3 record with a 2.90 ERA and 72 strikeouts last year.
OF Isaac Dillon of Nettleton will be attending Northeast Texas Junior College this season instead of joining the Razorbacks.
·8/21/01: SS Michael Lange (5-10.5, 175) of LaPuente (CA.) Bishop Amat High School has shown mild interest in Arkansas. He hit .427 as a Junior.
·8/17/01: Two Springdale High School graduates have committed to walk-on to the Hog baseball team. Jon Perry, the Bulldogs' leader in home runs (8) and RBI (39) and teammate Jess Carlson (.316 batting average).
·8/15/01: SS Chris Taylor (6-0, 180) of Webb City, Missouri orally committed to Arkansas. The high school senior to be batted .430 with two homeruns and 28 stolen bases as a junior.
·7/29/01: SS Ian Kinsler has decided to return to Central Arizona College for another year instead of joining the Hogs.
·7/27/01: Former Arkansas baseball student-athletes Jeff Hoefler and Kyle Washburn have been named the recipients of the Razorback baseball team's 2001 Dickey Awards. Hoefler will receive the George Dickey Award and Washburn will receive the Bill Dickey Award.
·7/24/01: Corey Ragsdale has signed with the New York Mets. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Rose State (Okla.) College right-hander Jarrett Gardner (6-1, 180) signed with Arkansas on yesterday. As a sophomore at Rose State, he was 8-5 with an ERA of 3.96. He had 77 strikeouts and only walked 10 in 95.2 innings. Gardner started 14 games on the mound with 13 complete games and three shutouts. In addition, he hit .297 with 6 home runs, 33 RBI, .494 slugging percentage and .396 on-base percentage. In the field, he had a fielding percentage of .961 and turned 9 double plays with 78 assists and 5 errors.
SS Ian Kinsler (6-1, 165) of Central Arizona College will visit Arkansas on Wednesday. He hit .395 with 21 stolen bases last year.
·7/19/01: North Arkansas College's Logan Hughes (6-foot-2, 205-pounds) is on the verge of signing with the Razorbacks. As a sophomore at North Arkansas College, Hughes hit .511 with 15 home runs and 76 RBIs. He is being recruited as a first baseman, third baseman and designated hitter by the Razorbacks.
·7/18/01: OF Reggie Fitzpatrick has decided to play professional baseball. He was a fifth round pick of the Montreal Expos.
·7/13/01: Summer League Update -- Andrew Wishy is playing for the Nevada (MO) Griffons, a member of the Jayhawk Summer League.
·7/12/01: Searcy catcher Dustin Roddy (6-1, 185) has committed to Arkansas. A 26th round draft pick by the White Sox, Dustin also chose Arkansas over Westark, Alabama, and Kansas St. As a senior, Roddy hit .378 with 5 home runs, 29 RBI and a .557 on-base percentage. On the mound, Roddy was 5-1 with an 2.13 ERA.
·7/11/01: Chris Tierney has unexpectedly signed with the Kansas City Royals. He got $110,000 plus $40,000 for school.
·7/10/01: Reggie Fitzpatrick (6-0, 185), 142nd draft pick (5th round) of the Montreal Expos, is believed to be coming to Arkansas. Montreals final offer was not enough for Fitzpatrick. The 5-11, 180 pound left hander is expected to play center field at Arkansas and could be a lead off hitter.
Nettleton High shortstop Corey Ragsdale (6-4, 185) is still negotiating with the New York Mets.
The Kansas City Royals and Lockport (Ill.) High left-hander Chris Tierney (6-6, 195) are still far apart in negotiations.
·7/5/01: Summer League Update -- Charlie Isaacson, Michael Conner, Kyle Washburn, Nick Pitts, Luke Weatherford, and signee Adam Carter are playing for the Elkhart Dusters, a member of the Jayhawk Summer League. Travis Janssen is the head coach for Elkhart.
·6/21/01: Andrew Davie, a 32nd round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals, has signed for around $150,000 and is going to play professional baseball. This is a pretty big hit to the Hogs!
·6/11/01: Cole Barthel, a second round pick of the Atlanta Braves, has opted to play professional instead of coming to Arkansas. He accepted a signing bonus of around $600,000.
·6/8/01: William Lewis a 5'10", 170 lb second baseman from Seminole State College in Oklahoma is deciding between Arkansas and LSU as to where he wants to play right now. He is said to be leaning heavily toward Arkansas. As a sophomore at Seminole this past season, Lewis hit .409 with 10 home runs and was named all-region, All-American and won the Big-Stick Award for the South-Central Region. William was a high school teammate of current Razorback pitcher Layne Berry.
·6/6/01: The Florida Marlins drafted Wes McCrotty in the 23rd round (pick #692 overall). The Cleveland Indians drafted Brian Kirby in the 31st round (#937). The Chicago Cubs drafted Charlie Isaacson in the 34th round (#1008). Hog signee Andrew Davie from CAC, was drafted by St. Louis in the 32nd round (#974). Isaac Dillon of Nettleton was drafted by Cincinnati in the 36th round (#1086).
·6/5/01: The first day of the MLB Amateur draft. Potential future Hogs that were drafted are Cole Barthel with the 73rd pick (2nd round) to the Atlanta Braves, Corey Ragsdale 76th (2nd round sandwich pick) to the NY Mets, Reggie Fitzpatrick 142nd (5th round) by the Montreal Expos, and Chris Tierney 205th (Round 7) to Kansas City.
·5/15/01: Seven members of the baseball team were named to the SEC Baseball Academic Honor Roll. They are: Jeff Fletcher, Jeff Hoefler, Brian Kirby, Jared Manatt, Wes McCrotty, Josh Merryman, and Jon Murphy.
·5/13/01: The Hogs played their last game of the season.
·5/7/01: Charlie Isaacson has been named SEC Pitcher of the Week after a stellar performance against LSU on Friday night.
·5/6/01: The Hogs completed a three game sweep of #1 LSU!! The Hogs have now won five straight games against #1 ranked teams.
·4/28/01: The Hogs hit four homeruns (Kirby [7], Fox [5], Wishy [2], Crossett [1]) in a 16-11 victory over Kentucky. That's the first time this season the Hogs have hit four homeruns in one game.
·4/27/01: Baseball signing update: Cole Barthel (Razorback football signee) is expected to play baseball as well as football at the UA if he does not sign with a major league team after the baseball draft. Other signees include OF Reggie Fitzpatrick, LHP Clint Brannon of Bradford, AR, RHP Josh Glynn, LHP Chris Tierney, OF Isaac Dillon of Nettleton, OF Kirk McConnell of Magnolia, AR, INF Adam Carter (Benton, AR) from Westark J.C., first baseman Andrew Davie of Central Arkansas Christian, RHP/OF Steve Lowry, and middle infielder Scott Hode from Crystal Lake (Ill.) South. An early signee, SS Corey Ragsdale of Nettleton, is expected to be a high draft pick. Jeff Maland of Harrison will walk on.
·4/22/01: The Hogs turned five double plays in a 14-1 win over #11 Tennessee. The five double plays set a school record. The previous high for one game had been four, which had been done 17 times.
·4/21/01: Tulsa Union High pitcher Charley Boyce (6-foot, 185 pounds) signed with Arkansas. Boyce, a right-hander, is 6-1 with an ERA of 1.27 with 51 strikeouts in 49.2 innings this season. Boyce picked the Razorbacks over Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Baylor and Missouri.
·4/20/01: Jeff Fletcher went 2-3 with six RBI and one run scored in an 8-7 loss to #11 Tennessee. Jeff hit a grand slam, his fourth homerun of the year, in the first inning.
·4/17/01: Wednesday`s game at Baum Stadium against Pittsburg (Kan.) State has been canceled. So has the May 2 game at Baum Stadium against Southwest (Mo.) Baptist.
·3/26/01: Scott Roehl of Arkansas was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week after his no-hitter this past week.
·3/20/01: Freshman Scott Roehl throws a nine inning no-hitter against Kansas St. Hogs win 2-0!!!
·3/19/01: Brian Kirby was named the SEC player of the week.
·3/9/01: Arkansas pitchers walked 10 and hit one in a 16-5 loss at South Carolina. The ten walks is an all-time UA record for one game.
·3/5/01: The Hogs lose two in the Hormel Foods Classic.
·2/26/01: The Hogs break into the polls for the first time, jumping to #21 in the collegiate baseball poll.
·2/19/01: Kyle Washburn was named SEC Player of the Week after a great two games against Long Beach St.
·2/18/01: Check out Charlie's story about the Hogs' upset of LBSU.
·2/16/01: The game with LBSU has been canceled. It will not be made up.
·2/4/01: The Hogs begin the baseball season with a 1:30 game against Missouri Southern. The first 1500 fans will receive a free 2001 Razorback schedule poster.
·1/30/01: The 2001 baseball promotion schedule is out!
·1/29/01: Former Hog Bryan King has transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he is working in the outfield.
·1/27/01: Gary Hogan's injury has officially been classified as a strain. He should be fine after a couple weeks of rest.
·1/23/01: Hog pitcher Gary Hogan, expected to be Arkansas' bullpen closer, hurt his elbow in an intrasquad scrimmage. It has been classified as a strain, but further tests are scheduled for the 25th.
·1/18/01: Rick Schaeffer will join Chuck Barrett in the radio baseball booth. He will serve as the color man.
·1/16/01: The Hogs were picked to finish fifth in the SEC West by the coaches.
·1/15/01: The Hogs began preseason workouts.
