Hogs' Nye Hurls No-Hitter vs.
ISU
Richie Nye penned another chapter in the improbable story of the
1996
Arkansas baseball season by pitching a no-hitter on Friday in
the
Razorbacks' 14-0 victory over Iowa State at George Cole Field.
Nye (2-0), who hails from Cameron, had 12 strikeouts and no walks
and
came within one baserunner of a perfect game.
The victory upped Arkansas to a school-record 15-0 start. The
Razorbacks
are just two victories away from tying the school record of 17
consecutive
victories, accomplished in 1985 and 1989.
The lone Cyclone baserunner came in the third when Ryan Harmon
chopped a ball in front of the plate and Razorback catcher Brad
Mulvaney
hit Harmon in the back on the throw to first.
Although Nye didn't need much help, the Razorbacks hammered Cyclone
preseason All-America pitcher Jeff Sebring for six runs before
the Cyclone
ace was sent to the showers in the second. In all, the Razorbacks
tagged
16 hits with freshman Ryan Lundquist leading the way with five
RBIs.
