12, 77 and 23 are the only three numbers to be retired by the Razorbacks, in any sport.

Clyde Scott, considered by many to be the greatest athlete to ever come out of Arkansas, was the first to have his number retired. After his playing days ended in 1948, his #12 was de-activated. In the early 1970's when the Razorbacks were recruiting Steve Little, a kicker from Kansas that insisted on wearing #12, Scott agreed to have his number de-activated. 12 was re-retired following Steve Little's playing career at Arkansas.

Number 77 was retired for Brandon Burlsworth, who died in a 1999 car accident shortly after being drafted and signed by the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL.

Number 23 was retired on May 21, 2004 in honor of former baseball coach Norm DeBriyn, who retired after the 2002 season.
