
Clyde Scott, from Smackover, Arkansas, played at Arkansas and Navy between 1944-48. At Navy (no.2 in the nation) during 44, 45, played fullback. Lettered at Arkansas in '46, '47, & '48. He was an All-SWC player for all three years, the Razorbacks' first three-time all-SWC player.
In 1944 while Scott was at Navy, Army and Navy were ranked 1 and 2 in all the polls, and were once again playing for the national championship. Originally scheduled to be played at Thompson Stadium in Annapolis, the game was transferred to Baltimore to accommodate the huge demand for tickets, and to benefit the Sixth War Loan Drive. To purchase a ticket for the game it was necessary to also buy a war bond valued from $25 to $1,000, a total of $58,637,000 was raised as a result of this effort.
Was with the Detroit Lions in 1952. Played with the Philadelphia Eagles as well. Drafted in the first round by the Eagles in 1948.
Inducted into the college football Hall of Fame in 1971.
Member of the inaugural class of the University of Arkansas Letterman's Association Hall of Honor in 1988.
Elected into the Arkansas Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1995. Scott won the Silver Medal in the 110 meter high hurdles during the 1948 London Olympic Games and five months later was selected to an All-American football team representing the University of Arkansas. As a Razorback, he won the 1948 NCAA high hurdles championship and set school records in the 100 yard dash, 120 yard high hurdles, 220 yard low hurdles, and 440 yard relay.
Voted the number 30 of the 50 Greatest Sports Figures of Arkansas by Sports Illustrated in 1999.
