Jarrett Gardner--Survey Responses pt. 2

HogNation: Have you visited HogNation.net? If so, what do you think of the site? Do any of your family or friends use the site to follow your career?

Jarrett Gardner: I have visited the site. I love the site. You can follow up on ex-teammates and find out how they are currently doing. My parents and wife love to get on and see if there is an article they have missed because Hognation usually is updated pretty well.

HN: What do you do in your spare time during the season?

JG: During the season I spend a lot of time with my wife. We watch a lot of movies and she loves fantasy baseball, so that usually keeps us busy.

HN: How do you spend the off-season?

JG: I spend the off-season in my hometown of Moore, OK. I substitute teach and give pitching/hitting lessons on the weekends.

HN: What do you do to pass the time on bus trips? What is the weirdest thing you've ever seen / done on a bus trip?

JG: I like to read books or play on the PSP. I love Dan Brown, John Grisham, and James Rollins books. I can't really tell you about the weirdest thing, because it is too embarrassing to describe.

HN: Do you have a nickname? What are some of the best nicknames you've heard (and whom do they belong to, obviously.)

JG: My dad gave me the nickname Cozmo when I was little. I have a tattoo with the name Coz on my left shoulder. A couple of my friends call me "Woody" because they think I resemble a Toy Story character.

HN: What have been your best and worst games in the minors?

JG: My best game was a 7-inning, 1 hitter last year in Ft. Wayne. My worst game was against Frederick in 2005. I gave up 5 homeruns in one game, but still had the lead when I was pulled.

HN: What are the umpires like, and how do they compare to college / SEC umpires?

JG: The umpires are worse than College. Some have a very inconsistent strike zone and some don't know the rules. It's kind of sad.

HN: Have you played with anybody or against anybody that you think will be a big star? Or anybody that already is a big star?

JG: I was in the same rotation as Jonathon Papelbon, Jon Lester and Anibal Sanchez. All 3 are in the majors now and are very successful. Anibal is the best of the 3.

HN: What was your favorite MLB team growing up? Do you want to play for that team?

JG: I was always a St. Louis Cardinals fan. I would love to play for them because their farm system owns me and that would mean I wouldn't have to pitch against them!

HN: What is it like playing with MLB players down on rehab assignments? (if applicable)

JG: They are very professional in the way they go about their business. There is a little kidding around, but you can tell they take their job very serious.
